Statesville is home to thousands of beautiful yards - thanks to the hard work of its residents (and local landscaping companies).

As you work in the yard and do some spring cleaning, here are some guidelines to remember:

* The City will collect grass clippings (bagged only), limbs, logs, plants, pruning, shrubbery, tree trimmings, weeds and other similar materials generated in the maintenance of residential yards and gardens.

* The City picks up bagged leaves any time of the year.  (Loose leaf pick-up is October – February)

* Trimmed shrubs and limbs placed on the curb should be 4 ft. length or less.

* Piles larger than 2 cubic yards (a truck load) will require the payment of a fee.

* PLEASE NOTE:  Yard waste generated from work by a contractor is NOT eligible for curbside collection.  Contractors must remove the yard waste from your home after work is completed.

* Try not to put large piles of yard waste under power lines. It can be a hazard for the equipment used to pick up the yard waste.

* Grass clippings should not be blown into the streets.

* The City will not pick up dirt, rocks, concrete, construction debris, lumber, plywood, roofing materials, guttering, fencing, doors, windows, carpet and padding, stumps, ashes, saw dust.  For a complete list, click here.

* Most yard debris can be picked up on the resident’s regular garbage collection day.  However, if it a large pile, please call 704-878-3415 to schedule a pick-up.

* Do not block the sidewalk or traffic lanes.

* Consider using grass clippings as mulch.  Leaving grass clippings on the lawn after mowing ensures that nutrients will be returned to the soil.  When leaving clippings on the lawn, adjust your lawn mower to remove no more than one third of the grass leaf surface at any one mowing.
