Proper placement for curbside trash and recycling collection is incredibly important to ensure your carts get emptied.  We need your cooperation to increase our efficiency and decrease your frustration!

There are changes in our collection guidelines because of the move to automated trash collection.  Yes, we are occasionally using non-automated trucks for trash collection, but we are asking residents to ALWAYS place your carts on the curb in the following manner:

  • Place your City-issued garbage and recycling carts a few inches from the curb or edge of the street (NOT IN THE STREET) with the wheels facing your house and the lid opening into the street.
  • Do not place the carts on the sidewalk. Use the space closest to the curb without blocking the sidewalk.
  • Keep your garbage and recycling carts three feet apart and at least 3 feet from any obstacles such as mailboxes, cars, utility poles, etc.  No items should be placed up against the carts.
  • All trash items should be bagged and placed in the container so that the lid will close.  Do not overfill your container.
  • All recyclable items should be loose in the container so that the lid will close. Do not overfill your container.
  • Do not put other containers (including boxes, bags) on the curb for collection.  If you need a second container, call 704-878-3415 to purchase one for $61.25. Only City-issued carts will be emptied.
  • The City will pick up old furniture, stoves, refrigerators, water heaters, mattresses and yard waste by appointment.  Notify Sanitation by calling 704-878-3415.  PLACE THESE ITEMS ON THE CURB 3 FEET FROM YOUR RECYCLING AND GARBAGE CARTS.
  • If you are using your old cart for yard waste, please call 704-878-3415 to ask for a GREEN STICKER to identify it as your yard waste cart.
  • Place your carts on the curb the night before your collection day and keep them on the curb if it hasn't been collected at the end of the day.  Sometimes the timing of our arrival changes, and we don’t' want to miss you if we come later or earlier than expected.  On those rare occasions when something goes wrong, please call 704-878-3415 to report a missed pick-up.  Once your containers have been emptied, please remove them from the curb as soon as possible.

GREEN TAGS - If we leave a green tag on your cart, please read it carefully to learn why your garbage was not collected or other issues with your collection that day.  Questions? please call 704-878-3415.
