City Hall will once again participate in the Downtown Statesville Fall Art Crawl this Friday, Sept. 14 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. (rain or shine)

The featured exhibit is provided by the Artists Guild of Statesville and include a variety of artwork from local artists.  It will be located in the lobby of City Hall.  Please come by.

The Art Crawl is a juried art exhibit that will showcase as many as 50 artists in 30 different shops and restaurants scattered throughout the heart of Downtown ...Statesville. It is self-guided and you can begin the Crawl at any location. Just look for the sidewalk markers indicating a participating business. A program guide directing attendees to all the locations and listing all participating artists will be available.

The concept is simple – come downtown and walk from location to location, meet the artists and enjoy their work (maybe make a purchase), browse through the shops hosting the artists while enjoying refreshments and entertainment, possibly pause to refresh yourself in one of our restaurants or bars, all the while enjoying the social mingling with hundreds of others out to have a fun time.

The Statesville Civic Center is proud to be a part of Friday night's Wedding Stroll.

Downtown Statesville is hosting a one-of-a-kind bridal fair this Friday, Sept. 28, and inviting all brides-to-be to enjoy a night of special treatment by many downtown businesses.   It’s called the “Wedding Stroll” and is free for brides, grooms, and, of course, the bridal entourage.

It’s a chance to stroll and explore Downtown Statesville’s unique collection of boutique shops and wedding venues, consult with florists and photographers, try on dresses and rings, create gift registries and even rent tuxedos or champagne glasses.

“Downtown is not only a good place to get help in planning a wedding, it’s a great place to have a wedding,” said Marin Tomlin, Downtown Statesville Development Corporation Executive Director.  “The Wedding Stroll will provide brides and their entourage a unique opportunity to see how our downtown businesses can assist them with their special day while enjoying refreshments and samples along the way."

Kenny Roberts, Statesville Civic Center Director, said his staff will be ready to show brides all the different ways the Civic Center can be used to celebrate a wedding.  "We will have rooms set up for the brides to look at and lots of examples of how the Civic Center can be tailored to meet each bride's dreams."

There will be special drawings and lots to do from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m.  Pre-register by calling 704-878-3436 or emailinfo@downtownstatesvillenc.org.  Same day registration is also available, but the first 75 brides to pre-register will receive a free gift bag.

Brides can register and pick up a program and their gift bags at the Historic Sharpe House, 402 S. Center St.  Parking is available at the Civic Center.

The City of Statesville will pick up tree limbs and yard debris from the curb under certain circumstances.  This service is provided to residents who are doing their own yard work.

If a resident hires a commercial tree company or individual contractor to do yard work, it is their responsibility to have the debris hauled.

Here are other guidelines for curbside collection of tree limbs and oversized yard debris:

  1. Limbs should be cut into lengths of three to four feet and placed on the curb.
  2. Limbs should be stacked neatly at the curb, separated from other yard debris.
  3. Limbs and branches more than ten inches in diameter should be placed in a separate pile on the curb.
  4. Do not mix leaves and limbs.
  5. Do not place large piles of debris under electric lines.
  6. Be considerate of traffic and pedestrians – streets and sidewalks should not be blocked if at all possible.
  7. Oversized piles of limbs will be picked up for a $25 fee.  “Oversized” is anything more than two cubic yards or more than what could be carried off in the back of a small pick-up truck.”
  8. Call 704-878-3415 to inform the Statesville Sanitation Department that you have limbs needing to be picked up.  Call this same number to make arrangements to pay the fee if warranted.
