Applications are now being taken for the 12th session of the Statesville Police Department Citizens’ Police Academy, scheduled to run Sept. 15 – Nov. 3. This popular seminar has successfully taught dozens of local residents about police services and career opportunities available at the police department. The eight-week sessions are held on Tuesday nights from 6-9 p.m.

Each class is taught by a police officer who focuses on the functions of each division, including important topics such as:

  • Criminal Law
  • Domestic Violence
  • Use of Force
  • Crime Scene Processing
  • DWI and Traffic Enforcement

Applicants must complete an application and attach a copy of their driver’s license or identification card. Applicants must also:

  • Be 18 years of age prior to the first meeting
  • Agree to sign a waiver
  • Live in Iredell County (with a preference given to Statesville residents)
  • Have no serious misdemeanors, felony convictions or current indictments

Applications are online or can be picked up at the Police Department, 330 S. Tradd St., or via email.

Completed applications must be turned in by Friday, Sept. 11.
