City of Statesville crews are monitoring the possibility of winter storm conditions and are prepared to treat roads for snow or ice, as needed.  There are currently no plans to pre-treat the roads with brine due to the expected rain today.  Rain dilutes the brine and washes it off roads.

Travelers are reminded to be on the lookout for possible icy patches due to freezing temperatures overnight.  City crews will use salt and sand to treat any spots on the road that might cause trouble.

Overpasses, bridges and exit ramps are treated first.  If you encounter ice or adverse road conditions while traveling in the Statesville area, please call 704-878-3406.  Do not call 911.  For real-time travel information at any time, call 511, visit www.ncdot.gov/travel or follow NCDOT on Twitter at www.ncdot.gov/travel/twitter.

Fifth Street Shelter Ministries, 1421 Fifth St., will provide temporary shelter for any Iredell County resident who may need relief from the cold.  Any resident who may require transportation to the shelter may call the Iredell County Emergency Communications Center at 704-878-3039.
