Community Forum on Vance Hotel
Statesville Civic Center

Drop In between 3-7 p.m.

The public will have an opportunity to hear details and provide feedback about the Historic Vance Hotel redevelopment project at Thursday's community forum. The forum is free and open to the public.

The community is invited to drop in between 3-7 p.m. and review the information at their own pace.  There will be stations set up around the room to address different components of the project with pictures, facts and figures.

Currently, the City has an agreement with Third Wave Housing to develop the former hotel into apartments.  Third Wave Housing’s proposal will be the only project under consideration at the forum.  City Council will use the information and input from the forum to help in its decision on how to move forward with the development of the Vance Hotel.

The City purchased the hotel in 2012, and has been working with Centralina Council of Governments to find the best use for the historic building.  CCOG was also engaged to develop the format for the forum so that the residents and community stakeholders are engaged in the process.

“This is a neutral information-based event presenting the layout of the proposed apartments and what they ultimately look like,” explained Bobby Williams CCOG Project Manager, who updated City Council on the forum at its recent meeting.  “There will be information on other Third Wave Housing projects, financial information on the proposed project costs, what the city is being asked to loan and how those funds will be paid back, examples of the benefits of downtown residential development, and the history of the Vance Hotel and its significance to the City of Statesville.”

Williams said that participants will be asked to provide input via a simple feedback form at the event.  The public’s questions and concerns are important for Council to have addressed by the developer before making a decision.

Richard Angino, developer of Third Wave Housing, will be present at the forum to answer questions and discuss the plans.  Participants can also talk with City staff and representatives from Downtown Statesville and CCOG.
