What makes a community great? A good start is a community where all residents are treated fairly – young people, old people, low income people, ethnic minorities, entrepreneurs, artists and immigrants.

On the heels of a successful community forum on February 29, 2016, at the Unity Center, the newly re-established Human Relations Commission invites the community to be heard at any one of five scheduled listening stops. These scheduled stops are being held in our local churches but are not limited to specific congregations. Each meeting begins at 6:30 p.m.

Thursday, April 14 - Statesville Covenant Cathedral, 1103 Wilson Lee Blvd.
Tuesday, April 19 - Shiloh AME Zion Church, 1115 Salisbury Rd.
Thursday, April 21 - St. John's Baptist Church, 1438 Church St.
Thursday, April 28 - Trinity Episcopal Church, 801 Henkel Rd.
Tuesday, May 3 - Grace Baptist Church, 719 Club Dr.

The public is invited to speak, write down their concerns and suggestions for improvement on a card or just come and listen. The meetings will be facilitated by local community members. Representatives from local government, Iredell-Statesville Schools, the NAACP, the local faith community, law enforcement agencies and the business community will be there to listen.

The results of these forums and the Feb. 29 forum will be presented in a special report to the community later this spring.
