Special t-shirts are on sale to support breast cancer screening.

In order to promote awareness about the efforts in the fight against cancer, firefighters from Statesville Fire Department will join other firefighters in wearing pink (and black) t-shirts during the month of October. This effort is the result of members of the Statesville Fire Department either fighting cancer themselves or having to assist a member of their family in this fight.

The t-shirts worn by the firefighters are for sale for $15 ($20 for 2X sizes and larger) with all proceeds going towards the Iredell Memorial Mammography scholarship fund. This fund is set up to provide women in these counties with mammograms and other treatments associated with breast cancer who could not otherwise afford them. These t-shirts can be purchased at City Hall (basement level) at the Fire Department general offices.

Iredell's Mammography Fund serves women in need in Iredell and the surrounding counties. Women can call the Women's Health Center at 704-878-4551 to see if they are eligible to receive a free mammogram.
