The Statesville Regional Airport is hosting the Wings of Freedom Tour Oct. 21 - 23 featuring three World War II vintage aircraft.  The planes will be on display for the public during that time for up-close viewing and tours through the inside of the aircraft.

Statesville Airport Manager John Ferguson called the event a "once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to visit, explore and learn about these remarkable treasures of aviation history."  The tour includes a Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress, Consolidated B-24 Liberator and North American P-51 Mustang.

Admission is $12 for adults and $6 for children under 12.  WWII Veterans can tour the aircraft at no cost.  Discounted rates are also available for school groups.  All proceeds benefit the Collings Foundation, the sponsoring organization and a non-profit, educational foundational dedicated  to organizing living history events throughout the U.S.

Expect to see the planes circling over Statesville around noon on Oct. 21 as they arrive.  The planes will also be airborne for special charter flights during their three-day stay.  These flights can be arranged with Wings of Freedom personnel on site at the airport.

                The times for touring the planes are Oct. 21, 2-4:30 p.m.; Oct. 22, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.; and Oct. 23, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.

For more information about the aircraft, go to the Statesville City website at or call Ferguson at 704-761-2370.
