At Monday night's meeting, Statesville City Council will receive a report from Police Chief Joe Barone and Public Works Director Scott Harrell concerning improvements to two pedestrian crosswalks in downtown.  Police have been studying the two mid-block crosswalks on Center St. because of reports of unsafe situations when pedestrians are using them.  There are signals to control the pedestrian crossings at most intersections, but the mid-block crosswalks are not signalized.  Harrell will present options to Council to improve safety.

Also on the agenda is Iredell County's request to annex county-owned property on Bristol Drive.  The 404 Bristol Drive site is the proposed home for a new public safety building.  The 440 Bristol Drive site is the current location of the county's Agricultural Center & Animal Shelter.  The actions Monday night are just the first steps for annexation.

The second readings for four condemnations are on the agenda.  The asbestos inspections are underway for these properties, along with six other properties condemned earlier this summer.  Planning Director David Currier said he expects to bring more requests for condemnations to Council in July.

Other matters of interest to be considered:

The write-off of approximately $6,185.45 in parking tickets and $133,775.44 in penalty fees for parking tickets.

The appointments to the Board of Adjustment, Design Review Committee and Planning Board.

The acceptance of Amesbury Truth Drive for maintenance by the City
