Statesville City Council will meet Monday night, Feb. 5 at 7 p.m.  This is not a public comment meeting.

However, there will be three public hearings, with the first two involving the same piece of property - 8.33 acres located adjacent to 110 Vance Po Road in east Statesville.  The first public hearing will deal with a request to annex this property into the City limits.  Following the public hearing, Council will be asked to approve the annexation.

The second public hearing will deal with a request to change the zoning from Iredell County Community Business District to City of Statesville Community Business District. Plans for the property include a multi-family apartment complex development.  This matter came before council about a year ago and was withdrawn by the applicant before it could be acted on. The Planning Department approved the project with a 5-2 vote.

Electric Utility Director John Maclaga will update Council about the LED Lighting pilot project, scheduled to take place this spring.  The plan is to replace approximately 8,400 street and area lights with LED lighting.

The pilot project will take place in areas throughout the town and citizens will be able to give feedback on the new lights.  Currently, the City uses primarily Mercury Vapor and High Pressure Sodium lights, which require more maintenance and use more power to operate.  Customers generally like the quality of the LED lights because it enables better viewing of colors.

No council action is required on the pilot project, but Maclaga is planning to include the complete replacement project in the 2018-2019 budget which Council will have to approve.

Police Chief Joe Barone will also provide an update to Council on recent police activities.

City Council will meet in the Council Chambers on the second floor of City Hall, 227 S. Center St.  The meeting is open to the public.  The Pre-Agenda meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in the third floor conference room.

The meeting is broadcast live on cable channel 20.
