Statesville will celebrate the installation of its 20th police chief with the swearing in of David Addison in a community-wide ceremony at City Hall on Wednesday, March 20.  Addison was selected in January of this year after an extensive search to replace retiring Chief Joe Barone.

The ceremony will take place in the council chambers at 2 p.m. and is open to the community to attend.  Mayor Costi Kutteh will administer the oath and Addison has asked his uncle, Wilbur Addison, to perform the pinning of his badge.  Following some special remarks, light refreshments will be served and Addison will have a chance to speak with guests until 3:30 p.m.

Addison, 51, is coming from the Durham Police Department where he served for 20 years, most recently as the captain of the department’s Special Services Division.  A native of Pennsylvania, Addison has an associate degree in engineering science from the Community College of Philadelphia and a bachelor’s degree in Information Technology from the University of Phoenix. He earned a law degree in 2016 from North Carolina Central University, and was admitted to the N.C. bar that same year.  He also works as an adjunct professor for St. Augustine’s University, teaching criminal justice and police science courses.

Statesville City Hall is located at 227 S. Center St.  For more information, call 704-878-3586.
