Statesville Police Chief David Addison kicked off his first monthly community meeting on April 20 at the Bentley Community Center, answering questions about his initiatives to recruit more minority police officers, detailing his goal to "build and rebuild communication lines" between the police department and community, and talking about his "new normal" - letting Statesville know "we're here and we're accessible".

Addison will hold a public meeting on the third Saturday of each month somewhere in the community.  A location for the May 18 meeting has not been announced.  The informal meetings will begin at 1 p.m.

Addison invited those present at Saturday's event to ask about anything - even if it's not police related.  "I will make sure what you share with us is relayed to the correct city department."  About eight community members showed up at the Bentley Center.  "I loved the meeting," said Addison, "and I look forward to the next one."
