City News

The City of Statesville is pleased to recognize National Small Business Week, May 5-11, and the impact Statesville’s outstanding entrepreneurs and small business owners make in our community.

The City is also proud of the services offered by Jared Wiles, the Business Development Specialist for Statesville Electric Utilities, who works every day to help local businesses succeed.  Jared assists business owners with a variety of cost saving measures, including the selection of appropriate outside lighting for their property and obtaining rebates for converting to interior LED lighting.

But according to Jared, the biggest way he helps local businesses is by reviewing their monthly bills and providing advice on how to reduce costs.  He offers a number of easy tips, such as setting the thermostat to the national standard of 78 in the summer and 68 in the winter; making sure doors shut completely, and weatherizing windows and attic spaces, especially in old buildings.

More importantly, Jared “will sit down with the business owner and look at their consumption history, determine where wasted consumption might be occurring and develop a strategy for lowering their cost,” said Wiles.

Wiles came to work for the City in 2015 and took over the Business Development Specialist responsibilities about a year ago.  The Wilkes County native has hit the ground running, learning about the needs of the business community and the support the Electric Utilities Department can provide.  Wiles enjoys using his business and public administration degree in this new job.  “I meet new people every day and especially enjoy helping people save money.”

Jared can be reached at or 704-761-2371.

Many thanks to all of our small businesses and the investment you make in our community.  Let us know how we can help you succeed!
