Statesville City Public Works crews have completed repairs to the storm drain and sidewalk along the 500 block of US 21/ NC 115 in downtown Statesville where a sink hole developed.

The damaged area has remained barricaded while City and NCDOT officials evaluate the situation and develop a plan to fix other potential infrastructure problems as well.  Statesville officials decided to move ahead with repairs in preparation for the annual Juneteenth Celebration held along the corridor in mid-June.

“We know the sink hole has impacted the businesses in this area and we greatly appreciate their patience as we have worked to resolve the issues causing the delay.  We hope to have the temporary repairs made by the end of this week,” said Mark Taylor, Statesville Engineer.

"The repairs will ensure the safety of the general public, underground utilities, as well as assist in keeping the structural integrity of the roadway system," explained Taylor.  "We (City of Statesville) will continue to work with the NCDOT on a permanent fix, but the public can be assured that, in the meantime, we will watch this area closely to make sure it remains safe."

The sidewalk has reopened and the large water-filled barricades have been replaced with a saw-horse barricade.
