Larceny of Motor Vehicle/Kidnapping

Statesville, North Carolina - The Statesville Police Department responded to a call from the 2000 block of Tara’s Trace Drive on February 10, 2023 at approximately 7:50am in regards to the larceny of a motor vehicle. Officers were advised that a 10 year-old child was sitting in the rear passenger seat when the offence occurred. Prior to leaving the neighborhood, the child was able to escape the vehicle and return home on foot.

Assisting officers located the stolen vehicle traveling east on Davie Avenue. The officers conducted a traffic stop and found the suspect, Carson Dennis Tate III, 18, of Salisbury, NC in possession of the vehicle. Tate was the only occupant in the vehicle, and after being taken into custody a firearm was located in his possession. Officers seized the weapon and were able to return the vehicle to its owner. Tate was taken before a magistrate where he was charged with Larceny of a Motor Vehicle, Kidnapping, Possession of Concealed firearm, and Resist Obstruct Delay. Tate was issued a $25,000.00 secured bond and remanded to the Iredell County Jail.
