City of Statesville Enters Stage D2 Severe Drought Condition

Last Updated 7/16/2024Posted in Latest City News, Homepage

Statesville, NC - July 16, 2024 – The City of Statesville is now in a Stage D2 Severe Drought condition, as declared by the North Carolina Drought Management Advisory Council (NCDMAC). This follows the recent update to the North Carolina Drought Advisory, based on data from the U.S. Drought Monitor of North Carolina.

In accordance with City Code and the Water Shortage Response Plan (WSRP), the City of Statesville is implementing stricter water use restrictions to manage consumption during this severe drought period. The following measures are now in effect:

Irrigation Restrictions:

  • Lawn and landscape irrigation is allowed during the following times and locations:
    • Odd-numbered street addresses:
      • Tuesday 8 p.m. to Wednesday 8 a.m.
      • Saturday 8 p.m. to Sunday 8 a.m.
    • Even-numbered street addresses and unnumbered addresses:
      • Thursday 8 p.m. to Friday 8 a.m.
      • Sunday 8 p.m. to Monday 8 a.m.
    • Tree and bed irrigation is restricted to bubble, drip, or hand irrigation only.
    • Golf courses and athletic fields must follow an alternative watering plan approved by the director.

Prohibited Activities:

  • All residential vehicle washing is prohibited.
  • Washing of public buildings, sidewalks, and streets is prohibited except for safety and health compliance.

We urge all residents to do their part in conserving water during this severe drought period. While civil fines may be issued for non-compliance, our primary goal is to encourage voluntary cooperation and community effort in reducing water use.

The City will continue to monitor drought conditions and implement further measures as deemed necessary by the NCDMAC. Additional voluntary or mandatory conservation measures may be published by the director if needed.

For questions about voluntary water use restrictions, or to submit an alternative watering plan, please contact Andy Smith at 704-878-3439. The City's Water Shortage Response Plan can also be found on the City of Statesville’s website at www.statesvillenc.net/water-resources.
