The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for our area, warning of moderate to heavy rainfall tonight (Saturday, December 28, 2024) into Sunday morning. This weather could lead to isolated flooding in some areas. Additionally, strong to severe storms are expected Sunday morning and afternoon, bringing risks of damaging wind gusts and possibly an isolated tornado.

As we prepare for potential weather-related challenges, here’s what you need to know to stay safe and informed.

What to Expect

Rainfall: Moderate to heavy rainfall Saturday night into Sunday morning may result in localized flooding.

Storms: Strong to severe storms are likely Sunday morning and afternoon, with potential hazards including damaging winds and an isolated tornado.

How to Stay Safe

Safety is our top priority during hazardous weather conditions. Please review the following guidelines for handling weather-related issues:

Downed Power Lines

If you encounter a downed power line:

  • Stay at least 30 feet away and do NOT touch or approach it.
  • Call 911 immediately to report the situation.
  • Remember, downed power lines can be energized and extremely dangerous.

Power Outages

If your power goes out:

  • Report outages by calling the City’s outage line at 704-878-3479.
  • Avoid calling 911 for outages unless there is an emergency involving a safety hazard, such as a fire.

Downed Trees

If a tree is blocking the road but does NOT involve power lines:

  • Report the issue to the Statesville Police Department at 704-878-3406.

Preparation Tips

  • Secure outdoor items to prevent them from becoming projectiles in strong winds.
  • Keep phones and other devices charged in case of power outages.
  • Have flashlights, batteries, and an emergency kit ready.
  • Stay indoors during severe weather and avoid unnecessary travel.
