City of Statesville Hosts Second Annual Canned Food Drive (February)
The City of Statesville is proud to announce its Second Annual Canned Food Drive in celebration of Canned Food Month this February.
Building on the success of last year’s campaign, this initiative aims to support local food pantries and help families and individuals in need within the community.
Throughout February, residents are encouraged to donate non-perishable canned food items at convenient drop-off locations across the city.
Celebrating Black History Month (February)
Black History Month is a time to celebrate the remarkable contributions and achievements of Black individuals in our communities. Statesville, North Carolina, has a rich history, and it's important to recognize the trailblazers who have made significant impacts in the City.
Notable Firsts
The appointment of A.E. (Pete) Peterson in 1985 as the first Black member of the Statesville City Council marked a momentous milestone in the city's history.
Peterson was selected to fill the vacant Ward Three seat, receiving unanimous approval from the council on June 17, 1985.His official swearing-in took place on July 1, 1985. Peterson dedicated an impressive 22 years to serving the community before resigning due to health reasons in 2007.
Honoring Statesville's African American Trailblazers
Dr. Robert S. Holliday served as Statesville's primary African American doctor for over 50 years, practicing from 1908 to the early 1960s. During this time, he was often the sole medical practitioner available to the African American community.
His home also served as a place where he cared for patients in need. Dr. Holliday's dedication to healthcare made a significant impact on the well-being of his patients and the community.

🔹 Assistant Finance Director (Full-Time): This position is responsible for planning, organizing, and managing assigned activities in the Finance and Customer Service Departments; performs the specialized accountant and supervisory level work for the city and provides significant financial support in the preparation of the annual operating and capital budgets and the City Annual Financial Report (CAFR) preparation.
🔹Property Evidence Technician (Full-Time): This position performs intermediate technical and responsible clerical work; responsible for securing and processing all evidence and found property; does related work as required. Work is performed under the supervision of the Property Evidence Custodian.
