Last week, Statesville Electric crews were headed north to assist with Hurricane Henri; this weekend, they’re traveling south to Lafayette, LA, where Hurricane Ida is projected to make landfall Sunday as a Category 4 storm with 50 to 100 mph winds and 4 to 6 inches of rain. SVL will be helping the Lafayette Utilities System for the second time in less than a year.
Last October, a crew traveled to Lafayette to help with power restoration after Hurricane Delta caused extensive damage in the same area. SVL is traveling with an Electricities Safety & Training representative. According to Statesville Electric Utilities Director John Maclaga, Statesville has had zero injuries when providing mutual aid, and hopes to continue that trend.
