Fireworks Safety for the Fourth of July
06/29/2021
The safest way to enjoy fireworks this July Fourth is at the Statesville Fireworks Celebration this Saturday, July 3, at 9:30 p.m. in the Signal Hill Mall area. But if you’re thinking about putting on your show, here’s what you need to know before you purchase legal fireworks from a reputable fireworks dealer: The only fireworks that are legal in North Carolina are sparklers, fountains, and novelty fireworks items that do not explode or are not intended to spin or to leave the ground and fly through the air. These include snake and glow worms, smoke devices consisting of a tube or sphere that produce white or colored smoke, trick noisemakers, including party poppers, string poppers and snappers and wire sparklers. You must be 18 to purchase fireworks in North Carolina and it is illegal for children under the age of 16 to possess fireworks. That’s why the Statesville Fire Marshall’s office stresses that fireworks should only be used under close adult supervision. Thousands of people of are injured each year due to fireworks-related incidents. If you choose to buy and use legal fireworks, follow these safety tips:

Holiday Recycling
Holiday Recycling Tips
12/29/2020
Be sure to recycle right after the holidays! Flatten gift boxes and cardboard boxes before recycling. You can recycle wrapping paper, as long as it's non-metalic and not shredded. Don't add the bows and ribbons though. Christmas cards are recyclable as long as they are printed on paper. If it is photo paper, please throw in the trash. And don't forget to recycle your live Christmas tree. Just place it on the curb (undecorated). For a limited time after the holidays, the City will collect boxes that are placed outside the recycling carts. But please break them down to allow for more room!! If in doubt, throw it out!!
