Fire Prevention and Safety Education
School Program
The City of Statesville Fire Department does numerous Fire Education programs throughout the year for various age groups and affiliations. Our most structured Fire Education program is directed at the 4th graders in public and private schools in the City. Approximately 350 kids are involved in this year's program. We meet with each 4th grade class for 1 hour each month throughout the school year.

Some of the topics covered in our lessons include: Stop, Drop, and Roll; E.D.I.T.H. (Exit Drills In The Home); Holiday Fire Safety; How to Report an Emergency; and the Chemistry of Fire.

We are very proud of our Fire Chief of the Day program. One student from each school in the city will be chosen via a poster contest hosted by the Fire Marshal's Office to spend the entire school day with the SFD and be Chief for the day. Students will learn all about a Firefighters daily routines and ride along with them in the fire truck and participate in some training of their own. This continues to be a big hit with our fourth graders.
