The City of Statesville proposes to construct a new location roadway near the Statesville Regional Airport (SVH) that would increase safety and connectivity for existing Bethlehem Road residents, as well as improve access to Statesville Regional Airport in support of economic development in the region.
The proposed new location roadway would tie to existing Bethlehem Road, either directly or via existing Lowe’s Aviation Drive, southwest of the airport. The facility, which would have a posted speed of 45 miles per hour, is anticipated to include two, 12-foot wide travel lanes, 6-foot wide shoulders (4-foot paved, 2-foot grassed), and grassed roadside ditches. The proposed project would replace connectivity lost by the permanent closure of a segment of Bethlehem Road to the north for construction of airport safety improvements.

UPDATE NOV. 30, 2022: The comments and petition received following the September 28 public meeting have been provided to the City Council.  At the upcoming December 6 meeting, City Council members will vote on a Preferred Option for the alignment of the proposed Bethlehem Road Relocation/New Access Road at Statesville Regional Airport.
The City Council Meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers of City Hall, 227 S. Center St.
