On November 15th, 2022, at approximately 2:12am, the North Carolina Highway Patrol located an abandoned 2020 Ford Mustang that had been involved in an accident on I-40 east. NCSHP began investigating the accident and located paperwork in the vehicle from Flow Toyota. The Statesville Police Department was contacted and responded to Flow Toyota, where officers located an open door to the business and several key fobs on the lobby floor. A key holder of the business was contacted and arrived at the scene. After reviewing video surveillance, four (4) suspects were seen entering the business. The suspects located the key fobs and stole a 2021 Dodge Charger, 2023 Toyota Corolla, 2023 Toyota Tacoma and the 2020 Ford Mustang located by NCHSP. The suspects arrived at the property in a white Cadillac SUV that was later found to be stolen from Winston-Salem.
At 9:00 A.M. Statesville Police received a report of a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of Best Western on Morland Drive. Officers arrived on scene and found the Dodge Charger previously stolen from Flow Toyota. Investigators began reviewing video footage from the motel and observed the suspects arrive in the parking lot with the stolen vehicles and leaving the Dodge Charger. Investigators went back to Flow Toyota and were able to track the Toyota Corolla and Toyota Tacoma to locations in Winston-Salem. Winston- Salem Police Department was contacted and their officers went to both locations in Winston- Salem and recovered the Toyota Tacoma and the Toyota Corolla. They were also able to recover the white Cadillac SUV which was reported stolen out of Winston- Salem.
During the investigation, investigators learned of a breaking and entering in Yadkinville, NC where a pawn shop had been broken into and numerous firearms were stolen. Upon reviewing the video from the pawn shop breaking and entering, investigators determined the suspects were the same suspects that stole the vehicles from Flow Toyota. Investigators worked with the Winston- Salem Police Department and were able to identify all four subjects responsible for breaking into Flow Toyota and the pawn shop in Yadkinville, N.C.
On November 16, the Winston- Salem Police Department executed search warrants on some of the suspects’ residences. They were able to locate items tying them to the crimes and recovered several firearms. Later that day the Winston- Salem Police Department arrested three of the suspects at Hanes Mall. At the time of the arrest, all the suspects were armed with a firearm. The fourth suspect was arrested later in a stolen vehicle. Three of the suspects are juveniles and their names are not being released at this time. The fourth suspect, Jamarion Maliki Jones, 18, of Winston- Salem has been charged with numerous charges ranging from breaking and entering to larceny of firearms. He is being held on a $1,000,000 bond.
Investigators with the Statesville Police Department will be charging all four suspects for three counts of breaking and entering, and four counts of larceny of motor vehicle.
All four vehicles were recovered and are currently in possession of Flow Toyota.
