The City of Statesville, in collaboration with the Statesville Regional Airport, marked a significant milestone on Thursday, May 9, 2024, with the groundbreaking ceremony for a new terminal building. The ceremony was attended by state officials, local elected officials, city staff, and members of the community.

During the ceremony, John Ferguson, Airport Manager, stated, "Today signifies more than just the groundbreaking of a new facility; it embodies the shared vision, enduring dedication, and innovation of our city and state leaders."

Discussions with NCDOT Aviation began approximately seven years ago after recognizing the airport's beneficial proximity to Charlotte, prompting city officials to transform the facility into the state's top General Aviation airport. Throughout this period, Statesville Regional Airport has been supported by $53,594,426 in state, federal, and local funding.

Among the regular users of the airport are notable corporations such as Sherwin-Williams, Cheney Brothers, Ashley Furniture, Kohler Plumbing, Briggs & Stratton, and Bonnie Plants.

The contract for the construction of the new terminal has been awarded to Samet Corporation, which is scheduled to start demolition of the existing building within this month. The completion of the new terminal building is anticipated in fall 2025.
