City of Statesville Receives Gratitude from Boys & Girls Club

Last night, August 19, 2024, the City Council meeting had some special visitors: Brady Johnson, along with members of the Boys & Girls Club of the Piedmont, stopped by to express their heartfelt thanks to the City for its unwavering support. The Boys & Girls Club has been a cornerstone of our community, providing a safe and nurturing environment for our youth to grow, learn, and thrive.

Club members Andreis Daye, Ashton Scott, Alijah Cauthen, and Jaylon Thomas stood proudly as Aaron Cauthen shared a brief speech about their experiences and gratitude (read the speech from Aaron below). Their presence was a powerful reminder of the impact that community support and engagement can have on the lives of young people.

The City of Statesville is honored to continue its partnership with the Boys & Girls Club, ensuring that our youth have access to the resources and opportunities they need to succeed. This moment of appreciation underscores the strong bond between the city and the next generation of leaders, athletes, artists, and scholars who call Statesville home.

Aaron Cauthen Speech from the August 24, 2024 City Council Meeting

"Dear Mayor Kutteh, Members of the City Council, Mr. Smith and Staff,

My name is Aaron Cauthen. I am a member of the Boys & Girls Club and a 6th grader at Oakwood IB School. My friends and I are here tonight to thank you all for supporting our Club.

The City of Statesville is always there for us. The Police Department and Fire Department keep us safe. They teach classes on safety. They also do cool things like bringing the fire truck by and spraying us with water on hot days. The police cooked hamburgers and hotdogs for us this summer and had games.

At the Boys & Girls Club we learn how to be good citizens which starts with obeying our parents and teachers. We get help with our homework each day and can get help from tutors like Mr. Charles in math and Ms. Dea in reading. They also give us dinner each night before we go home.

My favorite part of the Club is going on field trips. This summer we go to go to the movies, the trampoline park, rock climbing, swimming and more.

I also like to attend the Good News Club. My favorite class is Students-in-Training where we get to work on computers.

Thank you again for supporting our Club.'
