Statesville Public Power: Help Conserve Energy During Extreme Temperatures

Last Updated 10/7/2025Posted in Latest City News, Homepage

Successive days of extreme heat are causing unusually high energy demand across our area. Reserve power supplies are currently very limited.

Statesville Public Power is actively managing available resources, and we’re asking customers to help conserve energy to protect the electric grid and reduce the risk of temporary power outages.

Here’s how you can help - especially between the peak hours of 3–8 p.m.:

  • Adjust your thermostat to the highest comfortable setting. The closer your indoor temperature is to the outdoor temperature, the less strain is placed on the power system.
  • Delay the use of large appliances like washers, dryers, and dishwashers until after 8 p.m.
  • Use a microwave or cooktop instead of your oven—or consider grilling outside to keep indoor temperatures lower.
  • Limit nonessential electricity use by turning off unused lights, electronics, and devices.
  • Charge electric vehicles and battery-powered equipment overnight or early in the day.

We understand it can be difficult to cut back on cooling during this heat, but every effort counts. Thank you for doing your part to support the Statesville community.
