Celebrating Culture, Community, and Contributions

From September 15 through October 15, the City of Statesville joins communities across the country in honoring Hispanic Heritage Month. This annual celebration recognizes the history, culture, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans whose diverse traditions and hard work enrich our city and nation.

Statesville is proud to be a community where cultures come together. Hispanic residents, business owners, and organizations play a vital role in shaping the vibrant character of our city - whether through art, food, music, education, or entrepreneurship. Their stories are woven into the fabric of Statesville, reminding us that diversity makes us stronger.

Throughout the month, we encourage residents to explore the traditions and histories that reflect the spirit of Hispanic Heritage Month. Attend local events, support Hispanic-owned businesses, and take time to learn about the many cultures that make up our community. Together, we can celebrate the heritage and unity that make Statesville truly special.

About Hispanic Heritage Month

Hispanic Heritage Month began in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon B. Johnson and was expanded to a month-long celebration in 1988 by President Ronald Reagan. The celebration begins on September 15 to coincide with the independence anniversaries of several Latin American countries, including Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua, with Mexico and Chile celebrating shortly after. As we recognize Hispanic Heritage Month, let’s take pride in the shared values of family, community, and service that unite us all - Statesville is where it all comes together.
