Help Us Spot Water Leaks During Freezing Temperatures

Last Updated 1/30/2026Posted in Latest City News, Homepage

With several days of below-freezing temperatures, the risk of water main breaks and underground pipe leaks increases across our community.

With more winter weather and even colder temperatures on the way, that risk continues to grow.

When the ground freezes and thaws repeatedly, it causes soil to shift and puts extra stress on water lines. Older pipes are especially vulnerable, and small cracks can quickly turn into larger breaks. Water may surface through the road or collect along curbs, and during freezing weather, it can quickly turn into ice and create hazardous driving conditions.

Water Maintenance crews are actively monitoring the system, but with miles of underground pipe throughout the city, we rely on residents to help us spot issues quickly.

What to look for

You may have a water leak nearby if you notice:

  • Water pooling or flowing in the street when it hasn’t rained
  • Wet or soggy spots in yards or along the roadside
  • Water bubbling up through pavement or cracks
  • Unusual ice patches forming on the road during freezing weather
  • A sudden drop in water pressure at your home

Even a small trickle can signal a larger problem underground.

See something? Report it right away.

If you notice a possible water issue, please call as soon as possible so crews can respond quickly and prevent further damage.
