Adopt-A-Street


The Adopt-A-Street Program in Statesville, North Carolina is a partnership between the City of Statesville NC and its merchants and residents. Groups or individuals agree to adopt an area and take responsibility for keeping the street and sidewalk clean.

How can you get involved?

1. View available City streets.

  • Only City maintained streets can be adopted.
  • On the map, the streets outlined in red and blue are NOT eligible for adoption.
  • Check with the N.C. Adopt-A-Highway Program to determine if they can be adopted through the state's program.

2. Please pick a segment that is at least .25 miles (approximately 1300 feet) long. (Please note that there are some areas less than .25 miles that can be approved by staff.)

  • Pick Your Street and Complete the Forms
  • Select a name for the group that is adopting a street.
  • Complete the Application Form(s) below.
  • This form can be filled out online (or printed and completed), saved as a .pdf and submit the completed form using our contact us form. The application can also be mailed (see form).
  • If a participant is between the ages of 12 - 17, please complete the Youth Participation Release Form. This form requires a signature. This form can be filled out online (or printed and completed), saved as a .pdf and submit the completed form using our contact us form. The application can also be mailed (see form).

3. Once the application is reviewed and approved, you will be notified and your group name will be confirmed for the signs. The notification process takes 2-4 weeks.

4. You will be notified when signs are made and installed on your segment of roadway.

5. Schedule your first litter pickup day!!! (But read the guidelines first!)

Guidelines and Recommendations:

When participating in a Litter Pickup Event, please:

  • Wear light colored clothing
  • Work facing traffic (one side of the road only)
  • Wear sunscreen
  • Pick-up only during daylight hours in good weather
  • Wear closed toe shoes
  • Wear long pants
  • No headphones
  • No work around bridges or work zones

*Do not pick up the following items:

  • Broken Glass
  • Chemicals
  • Dead Animals
  • Medical Items
  • Weapons
  • Toxic Substances

*If these items are identified, please call the Street Department for proper disposal at 704-878-3414.* (Upon request, vests and gloves will be provided by the City)
