Doris Allison

Statesville City Council, Ward Three

Councilmember Doris Allison is serving her third term representing Ward Three on the Statesville City Council. Known for her determination, community advocacy, and collaborative leadership, Allison has focused her service on strengthening neighborhoods, improving public safety, and expanding opportunities for families in South Statesville.

Allison is particularly proud of the significant reduction in crime across Ward Three – achieved through close partnerships with residents, law enforcement, churches, businesses, and local nonprofits. By building trust, improving communication, and supporting community-based programs, she has helped create safer, more connected neighborhoods. She has also worked to secure funding for affordable housing initiatives and has been a strong advocate for fair representation in city decisions.

Since first taking office, Allison has seen Ward Three grow into a more resilient and engaged community. South Statesville has welcomed new small businesses, seen more families investing in homeownership, and strengthened collaboration between residents and city departments. She is proud of the way long-time residents and new families are working together to shape the future of the community.

In her current term, Allison remains focused on expanding affordable housing options, improving access to public transportation, and creating safe recreational spaces for youth. She is committed to advancing workforce development programs that prepare residents for emerging industries and ensuring that the area’s food desert is eliminated – bringing fresh, healthy food closer to home for families in Ward Three.

Allison continues to support strong partnerships with local churches, nonprofits, schools, and neighborhood groups. She is especially passionate about programs that support youth, seniors, and working families, believing that government is most effective when it works hand-in-hand with the community it serves.

Her dedication to neighborhood development and affordable housing is deeply personal. Allison’s passion for public service began with a promise she made to her mother to seek justice for her brother’s murder. That journey connected her to her community and showed her how collective action can transform lives. She saw firsthand how a single neighborhood meeting could change the trajectory of an entire block – an experience that continues to guide her approach to service.

Allison loves the spirit of South Statesville – the resilience, pride, and mutual support among neighbors. Outside of her Council work, she has a background in education and community outreach and enjoys sports, including basketball, softball, volleyball, and track. She is also a longtime fan of the Washington Redskins (now the Commanders).
