Mayor Costi Kutteh Elected as Board Vice Chairman for ElectriCities of NC
We extend our warmest congratulations to Mayor, Costi Kutteh, for his recent appointment as the Board Vice Chairman for ElectriCities of North Carolina, Inc.
Mayor Kutteh was elected Board Vice Chair after having served a term last year as Board Secretary. He has been on the board since 2020, having been re-elected in late 2022 for a second three-year term that will expire at the end of December 2025.
For those who may be unfamiliar, ElectriCities of North Carolina, Inc., plays a vital role in providing power supply and essential services to over 90 community-owned electric systems across North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia.
These community-owned electric systems, known as public power, are the backbone of our region's energy infrastructure, ensuring reliable and affordable electricity for our residents and businesses.
As a member organization, ElectriCities manages the power supply for two power agencies in North Carolina and offers technical support to assist members in operating their electric distribution systems efficiently. Moreover, ElectriCities goes beyond just providing electricity; it strives to help local power providers thrive by offering innovative services, including legislative advocacy, technical expertise, communications support, and economic development initiatives.
Mayor Kutteh's appointment as the Board Vice Chairman is a testament to his dedication, leadership, and vision for the future of our community and the region at large. His role on the Board of Directors will involve advising and directing activities and policies for North Carolina Municipal Power Agency Number 1, North Carolina Eastern Municipal Power Agency, and ElectriCities of North Carolina.
'It has been a privilege to serve on the board of ElectriCities for the past four years. During that time, ElectriCities has recommended five rate reductions and return to our electric fund nearly $20 million as a result of management, decisions, investment, success, and monitoring our relationship with Duke energy corporation. I look forward to continuing to represent the 51 municipalities throughout N.C., who are members of ElectriCities.' said Mayor Kutteh.
The swearing-in ceremony and election of officers took place during the recent ElectriCities Board of Directors meeting on January 26, 2024, marking the beginning of Mayor Kutteh's three-year term on the Board. We applaud his commitment to serving not only the citizens of Statesville but also the broader community of public power providers throughout the region.
