Statesville, NC – March 28, 2024

The City of Statesville proudly announces the promotion of Cody Leis to the position of Electric Utilities Director, effective March 18, 2024. City Manager Ron Smith made the announcement, commending Leis' exceptional leadership and contributions to advancing the City's Electric Utilities Department.

"Cody has demonstrated exemplary leadership and expertise during his tenure with the City of Statesville," said Ron Smith, City Manager. "His experience and proven track record make him the perfect candidate to lead our Electric Utilities Department. We are confident in his ability to drive innovation and ensure the continued success of our utility services."

Leis joined the City of Statesville in October 2023 as the Assistant Director of Electric Utilities and has been serving as the Interim Electric Utilities Director since January.

Originally from Blairsville, GA, Leis relocated to the City of College Station, TX in 2015 to pursue his career in the electric utilities sector. A graduate of Georgia Southern University, Leis holds the title of Engineer-in-Training, reflecting his dedication to professional development and expertise in the field.

During his tenure for College Station Utilities, Leis played a pivotal role in enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of the department. He was responsible for overseeing all engineering and field construction activities for transmission and substation projects ranging from $2M to $10M. Leis demonstrated strategic planning skills by developing short and long-range plans, including a comprehensive five-year capital expenditure projection. Leis also ensured City compliance as a Transmission Distribution Service Provider. He further contributed to the department's success by developing formal specifications for substation equipment and material and requesting bids from manufacturers to align with the overall electric utility budget.

"I am honored to assume the role of Electric Utilities Director for the City of Statesville," said Leis. "I am committed to upholding the highest standards of service delivery and fostering innovation to meet the evolving needs of our community."

Leis resides in Statesville with his wife Sierra and their son Levi.
