City Manager June 2025 Update to City Council

Ron, City Manager, provides an update to the Statesville City Council at the first meeting of each month. These updates cover project updates, employment changes, promotions, departmental news, key upcoming dates, and much more.

At the June 2 City Council meeting, City Manager Ron Smith shared updates on major City of Statesville projects, department news, and upcoming events. Here are the highlights:

Project Progress

  • Municipal Operations Center (MOC):  The Public Power building is nearly complete, with a ribbon-cutting planned for early July. The Garage and Warehouse buildings are also on track for June completion.
  • Police Department Expansion: Parish Tire is 75% demolished; grading begins this week. Groundbreaking is set for June 16.
  • Airport Terminal: Wall framing is underway and the generator has arrived. Project completion is expected late 2025.
  • Tradd Street Sinkhole: Excavation has started. Completion is expected in about 45 days.
  • Other Infrastructure Work:
    • The Water and Meeting Street project is underway.
    • Street resurfacing starts this month.
    • Sidewalks on Alexander and Stockton are moving forward after bids opened.
    • South Yadkin Pump Station equipment has been ordered.
    • I-40 bore and WTP valve work scheduled to begin mid-June.
    • Meeting Street upgrades begin late June.
  • Fire Department News
    • Three new firefighters started training, bringing the department to full staff.
    • A new Hazardous Materials Response Apparatus was recently deployed.
  • Community Dates to Remember
    • Friday After 5 – June 6 at 5 PM
    • Police Expansion Groundbreaking – June 16
    • Coffee with a Cop – July 17, 9:30 AM at Starbucks (Turnersburg Hwy)
    • Fireworks – July 3 at 9:30 PM
    • End of Summer Bash Supply Drive – Ongoing through July 18
  • Staff Updates: Several employees were promoted, transferred, or welcomed into new roles across departments including Police, Fire, Public Works, and Utilities.
