Door-to-Door Utility Scam Warning from the City of Statesville

Last Updated 8/14/2025Posted in Statesville Public Power, Latest City News, Homepage

The City of Statesville and Statesville Public Power are warning customers about reports of individuals going door-to-door asking about high electricity usage and offering to reduce power bills. At this time, we have no confirmed information about the person(s), company, or how they claim to provide savings.

While these visits may be related to legitimate sales of energy-related products, such as solar systems, they may also be attempts to scam residents or tamper with utility equipment. This activity follows a recent incident in which an individual falsely claimed to represent a gas company to gain entry to a customer’s home.

Important Information for Customers

  • Statesville Public Power employees will never ask to enter your home to discuss lowering your power bill or require on-the-spot payment.
  • All employees and contractors working on behalf of Statesville Public Power carry official photo identification and drive clearly marked vehicles.
  • If you are approached by someone claiming to represent the City of Statesville or Statesville Public Power and are unsure of their identity, do not allow them inside. Close the door and verify by calling Statesville Public Power at 704-878-3419.

The Statesville Police Department is aware of these reports and is actively on the lookout for the individuals involved. If you encounter suspicious activity, please call SPD at 704-878-3406, or dial 911 in an emergency.

Your safety is our priority - thank you for helping us protect our community.
