Last Updated 1/29/2026Posted in Latest City News, Homepage

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for our region as Winter Storm Gianna approaches, with impacts expected Friday afternoon through Sunday morning. Forecast models indicate the potential for heavy snowfall and strong winds across portions of North Carolina, including the Statesville area.

What to Expect

What to Expect

  • Snow accumulations between 2 and 7 inches possible
  • Wind gusts up to 45 mph
  • Reduced visibility and hazardous travel conditions
  • Potential for impassable roads
  • Possible isolated power outages due to heavy snow weighing down tree limbs and power lines

Conditions could begin deteriorating Friday afternoon and may impact the evening commute, with the most hazardous travel expected through the weekend.

Please note: Winter storm forecasts often change as the system develops. Accumulation totals and timing may shift over the next couple of days. Residents are encouraged to closely monitor updates from the National Weather Service, local media, and City of Statesville channels for the latest information.

How to Prepare

Residents are encouraged to take steps now to prepare:

  • Avoid unnecessary travel during the storm
  • Stock up on essential supplies (food, water, medications, batteries)
  • Charge phones and electronic devices
  • Prepare for possible power outages
  • Move vehicles off streets when possible to allow crews to treat and clear roads
  • Check on elderly neighbors or those who may need assistance

City Service Updates

City crews are actively monitoring conditions and preparing equipment to respond. Any updates regarding city facility closures, sanitation services, or schedule changes will be shared on the City website and official social media channels.

We encourage everyone to stay weather-aware and make safety a priority.
