The City of Statesville has approved a Right-of-Way Encroachment Permit for Conterra Ultra Broadband (Conterra Fiber) to install underground fiber optic conduit and cable in the public right-of-way near S. Tradd Street and E. Front Street.

Federal regulations require public rights-of-way be made available for utilities such as fiber optic infrastructure. The City’s role in this process is limited to permitting, inspection, and oversight to ensure work is completed safely and restored properly. The City does not control construction schedules or promote specific service providers.

Construction Timeline

Work is scheduled to begin Monday, February 2, 2026, and continue through at least Friday, February 6, 2026, weather and conditions permitting.

Work Area

According to the approved plans, installation will occur along portions of:

  • S. Tradd Street
  • E. Front Street

The project includes directional boring and the placement of underground conduit, fiber cable, and handholes within the public right-of-way.

What Residents and Drivers Can Expect

During construction, the public may notice:

  • Utility locate markings in the area
  • Construction crews and equipment in the right-of-way
  • Directional boring operations
  • Temporary lane shifts or brief traffic delays
  • Short-term access impacts near active work zones

Motorists are encouraged to slow down and use caution when traveling through the area.

All disturbed areas will be restored in accordance with City standards.

Questions or Concerns

Questions related to construction activity or restoration should be directed to Conterra Fiber at (704) 898-1217.

The City appreciates residents’ patience as this infrastructure work is completed.
