Domestic Violence Awareness Month, October 2024

WHEREAS, domestic violence that affects individuals, families, and communities, transcending racial, ethnic, age, and socioeconomic boundaries, and can have devastating physical, emotional, and financial consequences; and

WHEREAS, since 1989, October has been designated as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a national campaign dedicated to raising awareness about the prevalence of domestic violence and uplifting the needs, voices, and experiences of survivors; and

WHEREAS, the Domestic Violence Awareness Project has continued its efforts to unite communities across the country with the theme "Heal, Hold & Center," emphasizing the importance of working together to heal from violence and oppression, creating spaces that support survivors, and centering the most marginalized in all efforts to end domestic violence; and

WHEREAS, the City of Statesville is committed to standing with survivors of domestic violence, supporting prevention efforts, and ensuring that our city provides resources, protection, and advocacy for those affected by domestic violence; and

WHEREAS, we recognize the critical role of local organizations, law enforcement, advocates, and service providers in working tirelessly to prevent domestic violence, support survivors, and hold offenders accountable for their actions; and

WHEREAS, by working together, embracing cultural diversity in healing, and centering the experiences of those most impacted, we can strengthen our efforts to eliminate domestic violence in the City of Statesville and create a safer community for all; and

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Constantine H. Kutteh, Mayor of the City of Statesville, do hereby proclaim October 2024 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month in the City of Statesville. I urge all citizens, government agencies, public and private institutions, and businesses to work together to raise awareness, support survivors, and contribute to the prevention of domestic violence.
