2024 Mayor’s Cup Awarded to Stamey Holland III, Holland Building

Last Updated 5/9/2025Posted in Latest City News, Homepage

The City of Statesville and the Community Appearance Commission are proud to announce the winner of the 2024 Mayor’s Cup: Stamey Holland III, the Wilson Family, Statesville Historical Collection and the Preservation Statesville Board. This distinguished award recognizes outstanding efforts to beautify and strengthen the spirit of the community.

This year’s award honors the remarkable renovation of 117 S. Center Street, the new home of the Statesville Historical Collection. The building, brought back to life through a year-long transformation, now showcases curated artifacts and stories of local heritage, thanks to the vision and dedication of Steve Hill.

The Mayor’s Cup, first awarded in 1988, celebrates individuals, businesses, and organizations whose projects significantly enhance the visual landscape and pride of Statesville. Mayor Costi Kutteh noted that the inspiration for this transformation began with the late Jimmy Wilson, whose dream, shared with his wife Vickie Wilson, was to give the collection a permanent and meaningful home. He added that this project stands out as one of the best examples of community partnership he has seen.

To mark the occasion, a reception was hosted by the Community Appearance Commission on Monday, May 5, 2025, at the newly renovated facility. Later that evening, the Mayor’s Cup was officially presented during the City Council meeting and accepted by Stamey Holland, III and accompanied by Vickie Wilson, Tom Wilson, and Steve Hill.

The 2024 Mayor’s Cup not only honors a beautifully restored space, but also highlights the power of vision, collaboration, and community pride in shaping Statesville’s future.
