Understanding the Water Service Line Inventory Letters Recently Mailed to City of Statesville Residents

Last Updated 11/13/2025Posted in Latest City News, Homepage

The City of Statesville recently mailed letters to certain residents as part of a federal requirement under the Environmental Protection Agency’s Lead and Copper Rule Revision (LCRR). These notices are sent each year to properties where the water service line material is either galvanized or unknown.

Examples of the letters can be viewed here:

This requirement applies to water utilities nationwide and is not an indication of a safety issue with your drinking water. The City’s water is lead-free when it leaves our treatment plant, and routine testing continues to meet all state and federal standards.

As part of this rule, all utilities must create a mapped inventory of water service line materials for homes built in 1986 or earlier. To complete this inventory, we partner with homeowners to gather information about the customer-owned portion of the service line.

To learn more, view your service line status, complete the homeowner survey, or explore FAQs, visit our webpage: www.statesvillenc.net/water-service-line-inventory
