The City of Statesville has received confirmation from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) that its Public Water System successfully addressed all items identified during a recent Safe Drinking Water Act compliance inspection.

Following the inspection conducted May 6-7, 2026, the EPA reviewed the City's corrective actions and determined that all observations and findings had been satisfactorily resolved. In its official closure letter, the agency stated that no further action is required and thanked City staff for their proactive approach and commitment to providing clean and safe drinking water.

The inspection included a comprehensive review of the City's water treatment operations, storage facilities, distribution system, emergency preparedness, cybersecurity planning, operational procedures, maintenance programs, and regulatory compliance.

"Our Public Utilities team takes great pride in delivering safe, reliable drinking water to our community every day," said Public Utilities Director Bill Vaughan. "This inspection reflects the dedication of our staff and our commitment to continuously maintaining and improving our water system."

Throughout the inspection process, City staff worked closely with EPA inspectors to address several routine maintenance items and operational recommendations. Improvements were completed promptly, and the EPA accepted each corrective action, concluding that no additional action was necessary.

The EPA also thanked the City of Statesville Public Water System and its employees for their cooperation during the inspection and recognized their proactive efforts in resolving each item identified during the review.

The City of Statesville remains committed to protecting public health through responsible stewardship of its water system, ongoing infrastructure investments, and compliance with state and federal drinking water standards.
