Statesville Public Power Improves Storm Readiness While Saving Taxpayer Dollars

Statesville Public Power (SPP) is always looking for smarter ways to serve customers while making the best use of public resources. A recent project is a great example of that commitment.

Last year, funding was included in the budget for a new storm response trailer. Instead of purchasing a new trailer, SPP employees repurposed an existing City-owned trailer, saving money while still meeting the department's operational needs.

The savings were then invested in outfitting the trailer with the tools, equipment, and supplies needed to support power restoration and emergency response efforts.

The completed trailer is a fully equipped mobile support unit that can be deployed during local storm events, mutual aid assignments across North Carolina, or major storm restoration efforts anywhere in the country.

Whether restoring power here at home or assisting neighboring utilities after severe weather, the trailer provides crews with the resources they need to work safely and efficiently in the field.

"This project reflects the way our team approaches every challenge," said Cody Leis, Director of Statesville Public Power. "By repurposing an existing City asset, we were able to reduce costs while creating a valuable resource that strengthens our emergency response capabilities. It's a practical investment that improves our storm readiness while being good stewards of public resources."
