Winter Weather Information in Statesville, NC

Last Updated 4/20/2026Posted in Latest City News, Homepage

WINTER STORM INFORMATION: During winter storms, the Public Works Department works to keep the roads safe.

ROAD PRETREATMENT: Brine was spread on City streets Thursday and Friday in preparation for the predicted weather event.

SNOW REMOVAL: Snow removal begins once there is close to two inches of accumulation and continues on a 24-hour basis until the snow event is over. Snow removal efforts are suspended if reduced visibility makes plow operation unsafe, or if temperatures drop below 23-24 degrees. (Trucks are essentially smoothing over ice.)

ICY CONDITIONS: Sand trucks are called out to spread sand on overpasses, bridges, exit ramps, and other major inclines where ice can form.

Call 704-878-3406 (Police Communications Center) to report icy roads.

PRIORITY STREETS: The City clears the higher traffic and more critical routes first. This includes State/US routes, streets around Iredell Memorial, Fire Station entrances, etc. After that list is completed, crews work from collector streets, then to side streets, and eventually cul-de-sacs.
