City of Statesville Mayor

Doug Hendrix, Statesville Mayor

December 1, 2025 - Present

Mayor Doug Hendrix is serving his first term as the Mayor of Statesville, bringing four decades of experience in banking, management, and community leadership to the role. After moving to Statesville in 1989, he spent 34 years serving the community as a banker, culminating in bringing Blue Harbor bank to Statesville in 2015 and leading the development of its Broad and Tradd Street location in 2022. His professional work allowed him to build deep relationships across the city and gain a broad understanding of the needs and aspirations of residents and businesses.

Mayor Hendrix has a long history of service to Statesville through leadership roles in numerous civic, nonprofit, and community organizations. His service includes ICARE, the Statesville Housing Authority, Boys & Girls Club, Fifth Street Ministries, Habitat for Humanity, the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, Iredell Health System, and the Greater Statesville Chamber of Commerce, where he served two terms. He also served two terms with Downtown Statesville Development Corporation, is a member of the NAACP Executive Committee, and is an active member of Grace Baptist Church. His extensive involvement across these organizations has helped shape his understanding of Statesville’s strengths, challenges, and opportunities.

Hendrix chose to run for Mayor out of a deep love for the community and a desire to help guide Statesville into its next era of growth and progress. His primary goal is to establish a culture of trust and respect among the newly elected City Council, noting that having five new members presents a unique opportunity to strengthen collaboration and set a foundation for long-term success. He views fostering communication between Council, staff, and residents as a central responsibility of the mayor’s role and is committed to creating an environment where dialogue is encouraged, valued, and constructive.

Looking ahead, Mayor Hendrix is focused on ensuring that Statesville remains a community where opportunity is accessible to all residents. His priorities include supporting workforce growth, strengthening housing options across all income levels, and partnering closely with organizations such as Iredell County, the Statesville Housing Authority, and local builders to address housing needs through redevelopment, new construction, and revitalization of aging neighborhoods.

Mayor Hendrix stays connected to the community by remaining present, engaged, and accessible. He believes deeply in listening to residents and continuing the long-standing commitment to service that he has maintained throughout his career.

Hendrix and his wife, Carole, moved to Statesville in 1989 – arriving just a week before Hurricane Hugo – and quickly witnessed the generosity and resilience of their new hometown. They later played active roles in major community fundraising campaigns for organizations including Hospice of Iredell, Fifth Street Ministries, the YMCA, and the Boys & Girls Club, efforts that collectively raised more than $15 million.

Now retired from banking, Hendrix enjoys spending time with his family, including his daughters Haley and Mary and his two grandsons. He is an avid tennis and golf player and has sung in choirs throughout his life. He continues to sing in the choir at Grace Baptist Church.
