Work continues to progress on both the Statesville Police Department Expansion and the adjacent Parking Garage. A construction fence screen has been installed around the site to improve appearance and enhance safety.
At the Parking Garage, parking space striping has been completed on all levels except the lower level. The second elevator is expected to be delivered this week, and the overall garage project remains on track for completion in July.
At the Police Department Expansion, exterior walls have been installed and sheathed, while interior wall framing is underway. HVAC installation continues, with approximately 60% to 65% of the ductwork now in place. Electrical crews are continuing preparation for rough-in work throughout the building.
Construction of the new Police Department Call Center is nearing completion. HVAC technicians are onsite installing heating and air units and completing rough-in work. Overhead electrical rough-in is nearly complete, and the call center is expected to be finished within the next one to two weeks.
Work continues to move forward on both the Police Department Expansion and the Parking Deck.
At the Police Department Expansion, the HVAC roof curb has been installed, and HVAC installation is expected to begin next week. Overhead rough-in work is nearing completion, and roof decking for the new building addition is expected to be completed within the next two weeks. Demolition of the old roof is ongoing, and crews are preparing to begin wall framing for the new addition. Plumbing crews continue working on the lower level, and the new 911 Call Center is expected to be completed within the next two weeks.
At the Parking Deck, electrical and fire alarm rough-in work is ongoing. Roof panels are being installed on the elevator lobby, and remaining sealing and caulking work is being completed. The roof over the Tradd and Front Street stair tower has been completed, and crews are preparing for elevator delivery. Sprinkler line installation is underway, parking spaces will soon be marked, and light poles are being installed on the top floor. Roll-up doors are expected to arrive within the next two to three weeks, while the storefront window and door system for the elevator lobby is currently being manufactured.
Progress continues on both the police department expansion and the adjacent parking garage. At the SPD Expansion site, structural steel installation is ongoing, and steel decking arrived last week. Plumbing rough-in work has been completed, and the call center is expected to be finished within the next two to three weeks and ready for a punch walk. At the Parking Garage, lower-level concrete is expected to be completed this week. The beam for the overhead door has been set, and electrical work is ongoing. Metromont has completed sealing and patching and is expected to install safety cables soon, if not already. Scaffolding is now in place to support work on the elevator shafts.
Recent winter weather has caused some delays to exterior work. The current plan is to reopen Tradd Street by mid-March.
Police Department Expansion
Demolition and rough-in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing work are ongoing inside the Police Department. The second portion of the post-tension slab is scheduled to be poured on February 24, 2026.
Parking Garage
Underground piping is complete. Slab preparation for the lower level is beginning this week. Pour backs have been completed, stair handrails are approximately 90 percent complete, and elevator conduit installation is underway.
Construction continues on both the Parking Deck and the Police Department Expansion. Winter weather has played a major role in scheduling and will continue to impact the pace of work, but crews are moving forward as conditions allow.
On the parking deck, crews are working to complete concrete pour backs on the second and third floors and continuing exterior caulking during suitable weather. Stormwater drainage installation beneath the slab is nearing completion, and underground electrical is being backfilled. Masonry work is scheduled as temperatures allow. Over the next two weeks, once the final concrete work is complete, crews will begin overhead electrical and plumbing installations, add handrails to the first stair tower, receive delivery of the second stair truss, install additional footings and a cast-in-place wall, begin grading for slab-on-grade areas, and start framing the elevator lobby.
At the Police Department Expansion, crews are finishing the roof drainage tie-in and installing shoring for the next phase of the post-tension slab, including support at the building overhang. Framing has started for the new 911 Call Center walls. In the coming weeks, crews plan to remove the existing overhang, saw cut plumbing trenches, install additional shoring for the connection to the new gun evidence area, potentially begin structural steel installation, and start hanging and finishing walls in the 911 Call Center.

Site & Street Improvements
Construction continues to progress on the Statesville Police Department Expansion project. The crane has been fully disassembled and removed from the jobsite, marking the completion of a major phase of vertical construction.
The next step in the project includes installation of stormwater drainage along Tradd Street. Once this work is completed, Tradd Street will be patched and reopened to traffic as quickly as possible.
Shoring and scaffolding installation is nearing completion in preparation for the post-tension slab for the Police Department Expansion. Installation of the post-tension slab is scheduled to begin during the second week of December.
Construction on the Statesville Police Department Expansion and Parking Garage Project continues to make steady progress as crews work on multiple areas of the site.
Parking Garage
Police Department Expansion
The Police Department Expansion and Parking Deck project is moving forward as planned.
A crane arrived on site October 1, 2025, and will be used mainly inside the construction area. Only during the final unloading phases will the crane extend onto South Tradd Street. Front Street is expected to see very little impact, with only brief delays when trucks are backing into the site.
Overall, construction is progressing well with minimal disruption to nearby streets.
Work is progressing steadily on the Statesville Police Department Expansion and Parking Deck.
Crews are continuing foundation and concrete wall work, with forms being removed from walls already poured and the south elevation scheduled to be poured by the end of this week. Storm drain installation has started along Front Street, and demolition at the Police Department building is also underway, including removal of the lower-level awning and basement entrance, as well as modifications to the interior handicapped ramp to accommodate construction.
A crane will be set up the week of September 15, 2025, with pre-cast concrete deliveries beginning September 22. Deliveries will be offloaded from Front Street first before moving to Tradd Street. While this may create some additional congestion, impacts are expected to be minimal since streets in the area are already closed.
Work is moving forward on the Police Department Expansion and Parking Deck, with significant progress being made both above and below ground.
Parking Deck Highlights: Crews have poured the west side footings where conditions allowed and are now working to form the back wall, which will be poured soon. The elevator floor has been completed, and work continues on the north side footings.
Over the next couple of weeks, crews will shift to pouring footings on the east side. Once current drainage work in the area is completed, installation of the storm drain system for the parking deck will begin.
Police Department Building Expansion: Preparation of the building pad is underway and will soon be followed by footing installation for the new structure. Demolition of existing structures necessary for the new building footprint is scheduled to begin in August. Storm drain installation for the building expansion is expected to follow later in the month.
We’re excited to see this project progressing and appreciate the community’s patience as we work to bring these much-needed improvements to the Statesville Police Department.
Progress continues on the Statesville Police Department Expansion and Parking Deck, and we’re excited to share the latest developments:
City officials, staff, project partners, and members of the community gathered on Monday, June 16, to officially break ground on the Statesville Police Department Expansion and Parking Deck Project at 330 S. Tradd Street. The event marked the beginning of a major downtown initiative focused on enhancing public safety services and supporting future growth.
The expansion will bring all divisions of the Statesville Police Department under one roof, providing updated facilities and modern resources to improve service and operational efficiency. The six-level parking deck will support police operations, downtown visitors, and future apartment residents.
Demolition of the old Parrish Tire building is approximately 95% complete. Grading operations are scheduled to begin this week, alongside the installation of a silt fence around the site. Due to the required placement of the silt fence at the back of the curb, certain sections of the sidewalk will be temporarily closed.
The contractor is working closely with the City of Statesville Engineering Department to finalize a sidewalk detour plan. Once complete, detour signage will be posted to help pedestrians safely navigate around the closure areas.
Check back for more updates as progress continues on the expansion of the Statesville Police Department and new Parking Deck.
Construction Ramps Up at Tradd and East Front Street
Construction is ramping up at the corner of Tradd Street and East Front Street as DELCO, the contractor for the Statesville Police Department expansion and new parking deck, begins work at the former Parrish Tire building.
Starting May 20, two cranes will be on site and barricades will fully block all vehicle access to the parking lot. By the end of the week, the property will be enclosed with a construction fence as crews begin staging for this major project.
Please note: Parking at the former Parrish Tire site is no longer available.
The lot has recently been used as a cut-through by drivers attempting to bypass the road closure at Tradd and Front. This will no longer be possible. Vehicles will need to turn around and use alternate routes.
What to Expect:
We appreciate your continued patience as work progresses on these important downtown infrastructure improvements. Please check back regularly for updates.
