Statesville Regional Airport Terminal Building

Progress continues on the new terminal building at the Statesville Regional Airport.

The ribbon cutting ceremony has been rescheduled to March 26, 2026. Learn more about the ribbon cutting here. Exterior metal panels have arrived and are currently being installed. A meeting with the exterior signage company is scheduled for next week to finalize signage details.

Several minor interior punch list items are being addressed. A final exterior punch walk will be conducted once the metal panel installation is complete.

Work continues on the new Airport Terminal Building as the project moves into its final stages. Crews are wrapping up remaining punch list items and completing finishing touches throughout the building.

Long lead-time metal panels are expected to arrive in mid to late February 2026 and will be installed once delivered. The original flagpole shipment arrived with the wrong finish and is being returned. The correct flagpole was delivered late last week, and installation is currently underway.

The ribbon cutting ceremony remains scheduled for February 9, 2026, as planned - and we can’t wait to celebrate this milestone with you!

The new terminal building at the Statesville Regional Airport reached a major milestone with the issuance of a Temporary Certificate of Occupancy (TCO) on December 19, 2025.

All major construction tasks have been completed. A small number of minor items remain, including installation of metal panels needed to wrap exterior columns. These panels had a longer lead time and are expected to be installed once received.

The current plan is to hold a ribbon cutting ceremony on February 9, 2026. Additional details will be shared as the event approaches.

Project Update: December 2025

Construction of the new Statesville Regional Airport Terminal Building continues to move forward, with the contractor targeting substantial completion by December 15, 2025. Once the project reaches substantial completion, the City of Statesville will be granted a Temporary Certificate of Occupancy (TCO), allowing the building to begin limited operations.

Final punch list items are expected to be completed between late January and early February 2026.

There are a few areas of the project that are awaiting custom metal panels with extended lead times. These panels are strictly cosmetic and will not impact the issuance of the final Certificate of Occupancy.

Pending final completion, the City of Statesville is hopeful to host an official grand opening toward the end of February 2026.

The Statesville Regional Airport Terminal Building Project is nearing completion, with major milestones now in sight. The final lift of asphalt has been installed in the parking lot, marking one of the last major exterior construction activities.

The project is on track for substantial completion by mid-December. Although metal panels for the lobby and exterior columns have been delayed until early February 2026, this delay will not affect the Certificate of Completion or the building’s readiness for opening.

A plaque unveiling ceremony for City Council is currently scheduled for December 1, 2025, with an official Grand Opening event planned for mid to late January 2026.

Project Update: October 3, 2025

The Airport Terminal Building project is making steady progress and is scheduled for substantial completion by December 9, 2025, with all punch list items expected to be finished by early February 2026.

Recent work includes completing sidewalks, taxiway paving, and exterior panel installation. Inside, crews are insulating walls, installing bathrooms, electrical systems, and other key building components. Landscaping, drainage work, and parking lot improvements are also underway.

The building is quickly taking shape inside and out, bringing the project closer to opening.

Project Update: August 26, 2025

Construction on the Statesville Regional Airport Terminal Building continues to make strong progress with several major components nearing completion.

The 3rd floor balcony roof is complete, elevators and rough-in electrical work are substantially finished, and crews are advancing with guard rail posts, drywall, and framing for curtain walls.

Insulation for exterior metal panels is being installed, the booster pump is in place, and fire protection is 95% complete.

Site improvements are also moving forward, including curb and gutter work, stormwater pond clearing, and ongoing cleanup.

Upcoming milestones include the installation of knock-down doors, completion of the main stair railings, and setting of the generator.

While the substantial completion date has been adjusted to December 16, 2025, to allow for storefront installation that will keep the building weather-tight, the project remains on track to deliver a modern, functional terminal that will serve the community for years to come.

Construction of the new Statesville Regional Airport Terminal Building is making steady progress. Most of the brickwork on the building is nearly finished, and crews are continuing with work around the site. Workers are installing support materials for the rooftop walls, and the large glass curtain walls and front windows are also being built.

The transformer and underground systems that will power the building are in place, and the second elevator shaft is mostly complete. Inside, framing for the rooms and offices is coming along well. Ventilation for the first-floor bathrooms is being installed, and the stairwells are starting to take shape. One of the biggest tasks right now is finishing the rough installation of plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems on the first floor. Outside, crews plan to finish preparing the parking lot curbs this week. The project team has also reviewed inspection requirements to stay on track.

Because of delays in getting some of the metal panels needed for the exterior, the expected completion date has been moved to December 18, 2025.

Work on the new terminal at Statesville Regional Airport is moving right along! Here’s a look at what’s happening on-site:

  • Crews have started building the walls below ground level.
  • Brickwork is now underway on the exterior of the building.
  • A few pieces of flashing (used to keep water out) are still on the way, but most of the building is being sealed up.
  • The City of Statesville has finished running underground pipes and wiring where needed.
  • Lights are being installed under the first-floor canopies.
  • The elevator shaft has been insulated to help with temperature and noise control.
  • Support beams (called headers) have been put in place to hold parts of the structure.
  • A few minor issues with wall framing were found, but they’ve already been fixed.
  • About 75% of the walls on the lower level are framed and taking shape.
  • The concrete floors (called the “slab on grade”) have been smoothed out and approved—we’re just waiting on a final warranty letter.
  • Pipes on the roof that carry away rainwater are being wrapped in insulation to protect them.
  • Plumbing work inside the building is continuing steadily.
  • The concrete pad for the generator will be poured sometime next week.

We’re excited about the progress and will continue to share updates as this project moves forward. Check back soon for more!

Construction on the new Airport Terminal Building continues to make steady progress. Crews are actively working on fill dirt placement in the lower parking lot and are focused on drying the area to stay on track. Exterior framing is moving along, and 704 Steel is addressing heavy steel framing components. A site walk with the roofing contractor is scheduled for Monday, March 31, 2025, and roof curbs for exhaust fans and roof top HVAC units are expected to be installed by the end of the week. The existing stormwater pond has been cleared and cleaned out, and roof drains have been completed. Inside the building, sprinkler installation is nearing completion. Interior wall framing is progressing in sequence, beginning with the second floor, followed by the third, and then the first floor.
