Honoring Our Everyday Heroes: National First Responders Day (October 28)

Last Updated 10/28/2025Posted in Latest City News, Homepage

Every day, dedicated men and women step forward to protect, serve, and support our community - often putting the needs of others above their own. First Responders Day, observed annually on October 28, is a time to recognize these brave individuals and thank them for their unwavering service to the City of Statesville.

Why We Celebrate

First Responders Day was established to honor the courageous professionals who are the first to arrive in times of crisis - whether it’s a fire, medical emergency, natural disaster, or public safety threat. These individuals play a vital role in maintaining the safety, health, and well-being of our community. Their quick thinking, specialized training, and dedication make a life-saving difference every single day.

In Statesville, our Fire Department, Police Department, EMS teams, and Public Safety Communications personnel exemplify what it means to serve with courage and compassion. They are there when we need them most - day or night, in all weather, and under all circumstances.

Who Are Our First Responders?

First Responders include:

  • Firefighters – Responding to fires, accidents, rescues, and hazardous situations to keep citizens and property safe.
  • Police Officers – Protecting our neighborhoods, enforcing laws, and building trust through community policing.
  • Emergency Medical Services (EMS) – Providing critical care and life-saving medical support in emergencies.
  • Public Safety Communications (Dispatchers) – The first voice of help, ensuring responders reach those in need quickly and safely.

Each of these roles is essential to keeping Statesville safe, secure, and resilient.

How You Can Show Appreciation

There are many ways to thank our first responders - not just on October 28, but throughout the year:

  • Say “Thank You” – A simple expression of gratitude can go a long way.
  • Support local departments – Attend community events, safety demonstrations, and open houses.
  • Share your appreciation – Post a message on social media or send a note to your local fire or police department.
  • Practice preparedness – Stay informed, follow safety guidelines, and do your part to keep the community safe.

A Message from the City of Statesville

The City of Statesville is proud to recognize the dedication and service of our first responders. Their professionalism, bravery, and compassion embody the very best of our community. On First Responders Day - and every day - we extend our heartfelt gratitude for the work they do to keep Statesville strong.
