Waste & Recycling Workers Week 2026: Honoring the People Who Keep Statesville Clean
June 15–20, 2026
Every day, before many of us begin our morning routines, dedicated Solid Waste Services employees are already hard at work helping keep Statesville clean, safe, and beautiful. From collecting household garbage and recycling to removing yard waste and bulky items, these essential workers provide services that support public health, protect the environment, and enhance our quality of life.
That's why communities across the country recognize Waste & Recycling Workers Week, observed this year from June 15–20, 2026.
What is Waste & Recycling Workers Week?
Waste & Recycling Workers Week is a national observance dedicated to recognizing the men and women who work in solid waste collection, recycling operations, disposal services, and related fields. These professionals perform physically demanding work in all types of weather and conditions to ensure neighborhoods, businesses, schools, and public spaces remain clean and functional.
Whether they're collecting curbside carts, processing recyclable materials, responding to service requests, or maintaining equipment, waste and recycling workers provide services many of us depend on every day.
Why Is This Work So Important?
Reliable waste collection and recycling services do much more than keep our community looking its best. These services help:
- Protect public health by removing waste safely and efficiently
- Reduce environmental impacts through recycling and responsible disposal
- Support neighborhood cleanliness and community pride
- Prevent pests, odors, and potential hazards
- Keep public spaces welcoming for residents and visitors
The work often happens behind the scenes, but its impact is visible throughout the community every day.
