Shooting Incident– 245 Garfield Street



On June 24, 2023, the Statesville Police Department responded to Iredell Memorial Hospital in reference to a victim that had sustained a gunshot wound to the stomach.  It was later determined that the shooting took place at 245 Garfield Street. The victim was subsequently transported to Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem with life threatening injuries.

Following the incident, the Violent Crimes Unit was called in to conduct an investigation.  At the conclusion of their investigation, arrest warrants were issued for Craig Alan Blackwell, Jr., a 30-year-old resident of Statesville, on charges of Attempted Murder, Firearm by Felon, and Discharging a Firearm in the City Limits.

On July 3, 2023, the Iredell County Sheriff's Department responded to a call regarding a trespasser on Greenbriar Road, located outside of the city limits. During their investigation, the ICSO apprehended an individual who refused to provide his name.  While in custody at the Iredell County Jail, it was discovered that the individual in question was Craig Alan Blackwell, Jr.

Craig Alan Blackwell, Jr. was then brought before a magistrate and served with the outstanding arrest warrants.  Additionally, he was given a $1,000,000 secured bond.
