Statesville Police Department Presents 2025 Annual Crime Report to City Council


On February 16, 2026, Chief David Onley presented the Statesville Police Department’s 2025 Annual Crime Report to the Statesville City Council. 

The report provides a comprehensive year-in-review of crime data, operational activity, and community engagement efforts across the department.

Crimes Against Persons

In 2025, the department recorded a total of 146 violent crimes, compared to 148 in 2024, representing a 1.35% decrease year-to-date.

Breakdown of crimes against persons in 2025:

  • Aggravated Assault: 109 (down 0.91% from 110 in 2024)
  • Murder: 3 (down 25.00% from 4 in 2024)
  • Rape: 8 (down 11.11% from 9 in 2024)
  • Robbery: 26 (up 4.00% from 25 in 2024)

Monthly comparisons from 2023–2025 and multi-year summaries (2020–2025) were also included in the report, along with hotspot maps outlining the geographic distribution of violent crime incidents in both 2024 (148 incidents) and 2025 (146 incidents).

Crimes Against Property

Property crimes totaled 1,007 incidents in 2025, compared to 959 in 2024, reflecting a 5.00% increase year-to-date.

Breakdown of property crimes in 2025:

  • Burglary/B&E: 100 (down 36.31% from 157 in 2024)
  • Motor Vehicle Theft: 81 (up 20.90% from 67 in 2024)
  • Larceny / All Other Offenses: 665 (up 19.39% from 557 in 2024)
  • Theft from Motor Vehicle: 126 (down 1.56% from 128 in 2024)
  • Theft of Motor Vehicle Parts/Accessories: 35 (down 30.00% from 50 in 2024)

Monthly property crime comparisons from 2023–2025 were also presented.

Traffic Unit Activity

The Traffic Unit reported the following year-to-date totals for 2025:

  • Accident – Property Damage: 1,198 (up 7.35% from 1,116 in 2024)
  • Accident – Hit & Run: 323 (up 5.56% from 306 in 2024)
  • Accident – Injuries: 292 (down 10.70% from 327 in 2024)
  • Total Accident Calls for Service: 1,813 (up 3.66% from 1,749 in 2024)

A three-year comparison (2023–2025) of accident calls for service totals was also included.

Evidence Division

The Evidence Division reported the following 2025 year-to-date property intake totals:

  • Firearms: 183 pistols, 16 rifles, 1 shotgun
  • Drugs: 779 items totaling 16,465.77 grams, 1,061.25 dosage units, and 73.85 liquid ounces
  • Currency: 68 items totaling $15,930.22
  • All Other Items: 3,144 Total Items: 4,217

For comparison, total property intake in 2024 was 4,632 items.

Telecommunications & Records Division

Total year-to-date calls for service in 2025 were 78,083, compared to 68,941 in 2024, representing a 13.36% increase.

Breakdown:

  • Admin/911 Calls for Service: 33,589 (up 1.91% from 33,270 in 2024)
  • Officer-Initiated Activity: 44,494 (up 23.91% from 35,671 in 2024)

Beat-level activity for Admin/911 and Officer-Initiated Calls for Service in 2025 was also included in the presentation.

Criminal Investigations Division (CID)

For 2025 year-to-date:

  • Cases Assigned: 764 (868 in 2024)
  • Closed/Cleared: 504 (579 in 2024)
  • Inactive: 138 (158 in 2024)
  • Further Investigation: 122 (131 in 2024)
  • Percentage of Cases Closed: 66% (67% in 2024)

Monthly case status data for 2025 was also presented.

Crime Reduction Team (Established May 2023)

In 2025 year-to-date, the Crime Reduction Team reported:

  • Traffic Stops: 692
  • Arrests: 72
  • Citations: 46
  • Firearms Seized: 35
  • Warrants: 158

Drugs Seized (2025):

  • Marijuana: 3,706.4 grams
  • Fentanyl: 3 grams
  • Crack/Cocaine: 105.1 grams
  • Meth: 285.8 grams
  • Other Pills: 156 grams
  • Cash Seized: $1,277.55

Comparative 2024 year-to-date figures were also included in the report.

Community Services

Throughout 2025, the Statesville Police Department participated in and hosted numerous community engagement events from July through December. These included:

  • Hispanic Community Meetings
  • Community Cookouts and Fun Days
  • Snowball with a Cop
  • Bowling with a Cop
  • Meals on Wheels
  • Stop the Violence (Kimbrough Park)
  • Back to School Bash
  • National Drug Take Back Day
  • Statesville Night Out
  • Trunk or Treat events
  • Walk for Life and Walk for Recovery
  • Safety presentations and church meetings
  • Toy Drives and “Shop with a Cop”

The 2025 SPD Toy Drive served over 625 kids.
